THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TD MODEL AND HB MODEL OF STEEL BAR TRUSS DECK PANELS

What are the differences between the TD model and HB model of steel bar truss deck panels? During the inquiry process, some customers always ask about the price of the HB model of steel bar truss deck panels. So, what is the difference between these two naming conventions?

First, the name of the HB model was mainly how the steel bar truss deck slab was called when it just started to become popular. Over time, the naming conventions for steel bar truss deck slabs from various companies have been prefixed with "TD," such as: TD1-70, TD3-90, TD4-90.

Secondly, if it's the same model of steel bar truss deck slab, the parameters of the HB calling method are larger than those of the TD calling method. For example: the steel bars used for the upper and lower chords of the HB1-70 model are coarser than those used in the TD1-70 model. Therefore, when inquiring about prices, whether it's the HB or TD calling method, we quote based on the steel bar specifications and corresponding truss height.

When steel bar truss deck slabs first emerged, they were typically prefixed with HB. As the entire industry developed, the naming convention for steel bar truss deck slabs began to use TD as the prefix, such as TD1-70, TD3-90, TD4-90, etc.

So is the HB3-140 steel truss deck plate the same as the TD3-140 steel truss deck plate? The answer is no, both are indeed truss-type deck plates, but their specifications and parameters are different. These differences stem from the different steel bar diameters and bottom plate widths they use.

Then, let's take a look at the specific differences through the following two specification diagrams.

HB3-140 steel truss deck panel specifications and parameters

TD3-140 steel truss deck panel specifications and parameters

The main difference lies in the diameter of the bottom reinforcement bars, with the former being 10mm and the latter being 8mm. The coarser the reinforcement bars used in the production process of steel bar truss deck panels, the more the cost will certainly be appropriately increased. Steel bar truss deck panels can bear construction loads, be directly laid on beams, and undergo reinforcement work. At this time, whether it is the bottom plate or the reinforcement bars all play a load-bearing and carrying role, and the diameter of the reinforcement bars also affects its load-bearing and carrying capacity.

The bottom slab of HB3-140 steel truss deck slab is generally 576mm, while the bottom slab of TD3-140 steel truss deck slab is generally 600mm. Steel truss deck slabs come in three grades. If the slabs are calculated based on their flat area (with the area being large enough to show the difference), the overall grade application of HB would be more than that of TD. The cost of HB's TD truss slab would be slightly lower than that of HB truss slab.

In summary, the steel bar truss deck of the TD model and HB model have differences in steel bar diameter and bottom plate width, and they cannot be confused with each other. These differences also result in different prices. Therefore, the specific choice of steel deck type depends on the engineer's specific design plan for procurement.
